How to make Gajar ka halwa (carrot pudding)

Impress your friends and family with this scrumptious Indian dessert, Gajar ka halwa. In English it means 'carrot pudding', so have a guess what the main ingredient is...

You will need
  • 3-4 medium carrots
  • 475ml milk
  • 4 tbsp of ghee or butter
  • 95g sugar
  • handful of chopped pistachios (optional)

Method

1. With help from a grown up, grate your carrots

2. Pour the milk in to a deep saucepan, add the grated carrot and stir until until fully mixed

3. Cook on a medium heat until the mixture has reduced by 75%. This should take around 15 minutes

4. Add the ghee (or butter) and the sugar to your saucepan and mix together

5. Scoop into a bowl and sprinkle over some chopped pistachio nuts (or another nut you like!)

6. Tuck in!
