Make some tasty crunchy potato hedgehogs

Who's ready to make some super scrumptious and super cute looking hedgehog style snacks? Don't forget to wash your hands and get a grown-up on stand by. We are working with some super hot equipment!

You will need
  • 1 large carrot
  • 500g potatoes
  • 50ml milk
  • 50g cheddar cheese
  • 1 tin of tuna (150g)
  • 50g frozen peas
  • 1 medium egg
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • Black olives to decorate

Step 1

With the help of a grown-up, peel and chop the carrots and potatoes. Then in a saucepan, simmer your carrots in salted water for about 10 minutes.

Step 2

With your grown-up, add the potatoes into the saucepan with the carrots, then boil for another 10 minutes, or until the potatoes and carrots are nice and soft.

Step 3

Now you can drain your carrots and potatoes. Be careful, the water and saucepan will be super hot, so make sure your grown-up is still with you. Then give them a good mash, while slowly adding 40ml of the milk. You will know it is ready when the mixture is smooth and fluffy, without any lumps!

Step 4

Add about half of your grated cheese to your mash and mix well. Then let the mash cool for about 30 minutes. While your cheesy mash is cooling, you can pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees.

Step 5

Once your mixture has cooled down, take a handful of mash and roll it into a ball, then flatten slightly. With your fingers, make a small divot in the centre and fill it with half a teaspoon of tuna, a few peas, and a pinch of grated cheese.

Step 6

Roll the mixture into small balls and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Use a fork to make little spikes on the back of each ball and pinch out the noses to make them look like little hedgehogs!

Step 7

In a small bowl, beat the egg with the rest of the milk, then carefully paint your hedgehogs with your egg mixture and sprinkle on the breadcrumbs.

Step 8

With the help of a grown-up, carefully cut your olives to make the eyes and noses for all of your hedgehogs, CUTE!

Step 9

Now they are ready to go into the oven. So grab your grown-up and bake your hedgehogs for 50 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy!

Step 10

ENJOY!
