Man in court over hit-and-run crash death

A man has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a 19-year-old was killed in a crash in Leeds.

Ashton Kitchen-White died after he was struck by a red Ford Focus as he crossed Middleton Ring Road in Beeston Park on Friday.

Regan Kemp, 26, of St Just, Penzance, appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court where he was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the city's crown court on 19 June.

The court was told Mr Kemp fled the scene after the crash and was later arrested in Scotland.

Two other men have also been arrested in relation to the incident.

Liam Miller, 24, from Polbeth in West Lothian, and Macauley Martin, 26, from Livingston in West Lothian, remain in custody following a public appeal for information, West Yorkshire Police said.

Mr Kitchen-White's family said the teenager was "one in a million" and had been about to "embark on his journey to become a doctor at Leeds University".
