Archive: People collect Christmas savings from pub

Archive video showed people collecting their Christmas savings from a pub kitty they had paid into all year.

The BBC footage from December 1962 was filmed at a public house in Essendon in Hertfordshire.

They told a reporter they intended to spend the cash on Christmas presents and nights out.

One woman said the pub made it easy to save money: "You've got to make a journey to go to a bank but I come down here, so it's easier to save here."
