Ever wondered what animals get up to at night? These lions at Whipsnade Zoo were photographed using a special night-vision camera. The camera can record infrared, also known as thermal radiation, which humans can't see. This makes it possible to take photographs in the dark.

The African lions are very active at dusk, when the Sun is setting. Hannah Cole, from Whipsnade Zoo says seeing the animals at night is "magical". She said the group of lions, which is known as a pride, are able to see well in the dark. They roam around their paddock and roar to mark their territory.

This colourful flamingo's feathers seem to almost glow as it is pictured in the water at sunset. The birds are famous for standing on one leg and get their pink feathers from a colour pigment found in things that they eat.

Aardvarks are nocturnal which means they are awake at night. The zoo's aardvarks are called Dobby and Terry. They were given a midnight snack of mealworms and grated cucumber. Um yum?

Not all the animals were awake though, cheetahs Fred, Billy-Rae and Robyn were fast asleep. Cheetahs are the fastest land animal over short distances and can reach speeds of up to 64mph in just three seconds. No wonder they are tired.
